Entry and exit to and from the park occurs through the old Outpost entrance off the Old Princess Highway. Once exiting the freeway at the Monarto exit, travel down to the Old Princess Highway, turn right, and travel approximately 900m to the turn in. Once at the gate call the Duty Manager on the number provided at the gate.
All education groups must provide their own bus for the Safari Park tours. One of our friendly educators will join your bus to provide commentary as you travel through the Park. Please let us know how many buses your group will be bringing when you make your booking.
Please ensure your bus meets the following requirements:
- The seat closest to the driver must be kept free for your Tour Host during the Safari Tour.
- Everyone, including all adults, must have their own seat and be seated at all times.
- Must be air conditioned with a working PA system and microphone.
- Minimum of 150 mm undercarriage clearance.
Monarto Safari Park is approximately 40-50 minutes from the start of the freeway (often longer when travelling by bus). From the school entrance on Old Princes Highway, it is a further 2km drive to The Outpost. Please allow a minimum of one hour for travel from the start of the freeway to The Outpost.
We recommend allowing a minimum of four hours to experience the Park without feeling rushed. On arrival, please plan for a snack and toilet break at The Outpost of at least 30 minutes before your program or Safari tour begins.
If your group arrives late, we will adjust your scheduled program times where possible.
The Outpost is the hub for all school groups visiting Monarto Safari Park. Please check in with our staff at the Retail Desk when you first arrive to finalise your numbers, present Zoo Membership cards, and provide emergency contact details.
You’ll find a range of facilities to keep your group comfortable, including:
- Toilets
- Picnic and shaded seating areas
- A playground
- Meerkats! (everyone’s favourite)
This area is open to the public, so you may see other visitors stopping to use the facilities during your visit.
There are several options available for school groups visiting Monarto Safari Park.
An ideal visit includes a private full Safari Tour (90 minutes) on your own bus, combined with a 90-minute hands-on learning session led by our expert Safari Park educators. We will schedule a 30-minute lunch break between the two experiences. We can run two education sessions per day (maximum of 30 students per session) alongside the Safari Tours. A minimum of 16 students per tour is required to book a school visit to Monarto Safari Park.
Sample itinerary for 2 classes and 2 buses:
- 10:00am – 10:15am: Arrive at The Outpost
- 10:15am – 10:30am: Students stretch legs, have recess and use toilet facilities
- 10:30am – 12:00pm:
Group 1: Hands-on learning session with Monarto Safari Park educator

- Group 1: 90-minute Safari Tour
- Group 2: Hands-on learning session with Monarto Safari Park educator
- 2:00pm – 2:15pm: Stretch legs and toilet break before departing
For groups pressed for time, we offer a 60-minute hands-on session combined with a shortened 60-minute Safari Tour. Choose to visit either the Elephants or the Carnivore Platform. (chat with Safari Tour staff on the day). Your experiences will be planned around your group’s arrival and departure.
Safari Tour only
Groups can opt for the Safari Tour alone if they wish. Minimum is 16 students and we can run a maximum of 4 buses in a single day. Sample itinerary for 2 groups and 2 buses:
- 10:00am – 10:15am: Arrive at The Outpost
- 10:15am – 10:30am: Students stretch legs and use toilet facilities
- 10:30am – 12:00pm:
Group 1: 90-minute Safari Tour
Group 2 can spend this time walking to visit the nearby Chimpanzees, Wallabies, Meerkats, as well as use the playground facilities

Again, if you are pressed for time, we offer a shortened 60-minute Safari Tour. Choose to visit either the Elephants or the Carnivore Platform. (chat with Safari Tour staff on the day). Your experiences will be planned around your group’s arrival and departure.
Adelaide Zoo Wild Learning offers education programs that connect students with nature through engaging, hands-on experiences. Students get up close with animals and explore the links between conservation and the choices we make every day. Our programs align with themes from the Australian Curriculum and make use of the zoo’s unique collection of biofacts. Students also discover how people and organisations are working to save species from extinction.
For information regarding prices for self-directed and Zoo-supported visits, including a link to our booking page, please see https://www.zoossa.com.au/education-booking-request/
Adelaide Zoo is open from 9.30am – 5.00pm every day of the year. Our team will work with you to tailor an itinerary that supports your learning goals and helps you make the most of your visit. Our keeper presentations offer a great opportunity to observe animals up close and learn more about them from the people who care for them.
School bookings must be received 4 weeks ahead of intended excursion date, except for Adelaide Zoo self-guided visits which require a minimum of two weeks’ notice.
Education-led sessions are based on a minimum of 20 students who enter together and are invoiced as a group.
Our ZooSnooze overnight program is available every night of the week and equity schools can now access reduced pricing for overnight programs at Adelaide Zoo[Monarto%20Safari%20Park%20overnights%20-%20school%20groups%20-%20Zoos%20SA], helping more students experience the Zoo after dark. A portion of every overnight booking directly supports Zoos SA conservation programs, helping protect species from extinction. Students will camp with their classmates, explore the Zoo after hours, learn about wildlife and habitat conservation, and take part in unforgettable night-time activities.
If an overnight stay is not possible, schools can also book our Twilight Program (5pm – 9pm) to experience the Zoo after dark.
The Museum has a range of curriculum aligned programs available for students of all ages.
Fully facilitated programs run for an hour and are delivered by a Museum educator. These programs are charged on a per-student basis. A minimum daily spend may apply.
Supported programs include an introduction from a Museum educator before schools complete a challenge independently. These programs have a flat rate per session.
Schools can also hire access to our education trolley to use with students in the Museum. In these cases, the Museum provides the resources and the programs delivered by the attending teacher. These experiences attract a flat rate per booking.
Wherever possible we provide an equity price for Department for Education Schools with a category of Disadvantage of 1-4.
All these programs must be booked in advance. You can find out more about our programs, prices and submit booking requests on our website
Yes. It is important for the Museum to know how many schools will be visiting each day to support our front of house staff and ensure visitor numbers are manageable. You can make your school-group booking here. OSCH groups, preschools and homeschool groups can also use this form. There is no cost to bring a school group to the Museum in a self-led capacity.
The Discovery Centre is open from 10:30-2:30 on Wednesdays, Fridays and weekends. In this room students can use our microscopes, check out our live animals, and touch museum objects. Our friendly staff are also happy to answer science questions.
Please ensure that students enter the room in small, supervised groups, as this is a small space which is open to all Museum visitors.
There are beautiful outdoor spaces at the front and rear of the Museum which are ideal for lunch and recess. Note that no food or drinks other than water can be consumed in the Museum galleries. On days of inclement weather, students may sit in the main foyer to eat.
The Museum has a limited number of lock boxes available for student bags. Please ask on arrival at the front desk and staff will assist you. These boxes are allocated on a first come, first served basis, and on busy days some schools may miss out. Students are welcome to carry their bags through the Museum. We recommend bringing as few bags as possible on your visit. Please ensure all first aid kits and medications are kept with you at all times and are not left in the lock boxes.

Yes. Specialised programs are available throughout the year, and schools can request custom professional learning programs.
The Parliament’s website contains a significant resource hub for teachers to bookend the learning experience. Have a look at pre-program preparation advice and post-program ideas.
There are no on-site facilities for food and drink at Parliament House. Visiting groups often use various food courts in Rundle Mall, or the Adelaide Central Market for meal breaks. If food is packed in student bags, groups occasionally eat at the rotunda in Elder Park.
Parliament is easily accessed by public transport. The Parliament does not provide car or bus parking. Busses may stop for a brief period in the loading bay at the front of the building to drop off visitors. The City of Adelaide is responsible for public parking in the CBD.

Once you have completed our booking request form, one of our team will reach out to you to confirm your booking. They will then create a schedule for your day and send through any necessary documentation, including risk assessments. An invoice will be sent after your visit.
Due to limited space, our education programs run in small rotating groups. The maximum number of students that can be accommodated in a four-hour visit with three rotations is 90. Larger school groups may need to plan their visit across multiple days.
Please note: tours on our historic vessel MV Archie Badenoch have a maximum capacity of 20 students and 4 adults.
Once a booking is made with us, we will create a schedule for your visit including recess and lunch breaks, which allows all students to participate in the chosen activities. This schedule is based on the programs and activities booked, staff availability, and whether other school groups are visiting that day. For this reason, it may be difficult to change the schedule on the day of your visit. We ask that you check your schedule prior to your visit, and ensure all staff and adults follow it to ensure your visit runs smoothly.
The museum doors open at 10am and most schools aim to leave around 2pm.
The SA government’s Camps and Excursions Procedure requires that the following minimum adult-to-child and young person ratios be adhered to:
- 1:6 for preschool to year 2
- 1:10 for years 3 to 6
- 1:15 for years 7 to 12
For some programs, additional adult support may be recommended to facilitate a smooth experience.
The South Australian Maritime Museum is cashless. Schools can either pay on the day with a credit card or a tax invoice can be sent to the school for the cost of the visit.
We will only invoice for the number of people who visit on the day, so we do not issue invoices in advance of the visit. Please provide the school finance or administration email address for payment of the invoice.
The SA Maritime Museum consistently receives more booking requests than we can accommodate. We operate on a tight schedule and endeavour to provide our education programs to as many students as possible. This requires careful planning and means that changes can be difficult to accommodate, particularly with short notice.
When bookings are changed by the client and the request can be accommodated by the program, there will be no charge. If we cannot change the booking, the rules for cancellation will apply.
The museum must be notified for all cancellations by calling us on 8151 3260.
Cancellations received within 10 working days of a program will incur an administration fee of 30% of the program cost. Cancellations received on the day of the program will incur the full cost of the visit. We follow the Department for Education’s policy on excursions and extreme weather. Fees will not be charged for cancellations in those circumstances.
The South Australian Maritime Museum welcomes all visitors. The museum has an accessible toilet on the ground floor and lift access to all floors. Sensory bags for adults and children are available upon request. Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome.
Please note that the police launch MV Archie Badenoch is not wheelchair accessible.
The museum is a 5-10 minute walk from the Port Dock railway station, and a 12-15 minute walk from the Port Adelaide railway station.
Parking in Port Adelaide requires pre-planning. Buses can park in the loading bay for embarking/disembarking on the corner of Divett and Lipson St, near the museum. It is not recommended that buses plan to park in the Port area without prior arrangement. Possible bus parking can be negotiated with the nearby Railway or Aviation museums, or Hart’s Mill. Private cars can park in metered car parks in the streets surrounding the museum.
Please call the museum as soon as possible on 8151 3260. We will do our best to accommodate you and adapt your schedule. Late arrivals may result in a shortened program or missed activities.
We are currently unable to provide a secure space for bag storage. We recommend that students avoid bringing large backpacks and instead bring a smaller excursion bag with only the essentials.
Food and drink are not permitted in any part of the museum. Suggested areas for gathering and eating include the tables outside the museum (under cover), or the shaded area adjacent to the lighthouse. In the case of wet weather or extreme temperatures, school groups can be accommodated inside the museum instead.
We want students to enjoy their visit, interacting appropriately with both exhibits and each other. Please ensure that students respect the shared space by using quiet voices, walking safely, staying with their group and following the instructions of their supervising adults. Objects on display should not be touched unless there is signage or a staff member permitting you to do so.
Please take special care when students are exploring the ketch, as there are potential fall and trip hazards. The ketch is not a play area, and students should be reminded not to swing on the ropes.
Teachers are expected to remain actively engaged with their group and the program by staying off their phones where possible, as museum staff rely on teacher involvement. We recognise that occasional phone use may be necessary for communication with parents or school staff. We also ask teachers to refrain from using whistles in the museum.
Different programs will invite different types of student engagement. Teachers should take their lead on their supervision style from our visitor engagement officers. You may need to adjust according to the program you are attending.
We have a gift shop onsite with a range of souvenirs, books and other items. School groups are welcome to browse, time permitting, with adult supervision. Please note that our shop is cashless.
In the case of extreme heat, or otherwise unfavourable weather conditions (such as high winds), the Archie tour will be cancelled. Schools will be given the option of moving their excursion to another date or selecting another program on the day.
The South Australian Maritime Museum will remain open and is air-conditioned inside. Shared spaces for eating are outdoors, so please consider this if the weather is very hot.
Yes, we have an emergency management plan and all our visitor engagement staff are
trained in emergency evacuation procedures. In the event of an emergency, you should follow the directions of staff.
Teachers may use discretion in allowing younger siblings to accompany the group, provided that the program capacity limits and supervision ratios are not exceeded. Children under 5 years of age can enter the museum free of charge
Yes, all our staff have their Working with Children Check and have completed training in Responding to Reports of Harm and Neglect – Education and Care.
You will be emailed after your visit with a link to a survey in which you can submit feedback on the education programs you participated in. If you have any other feedback on your experience at the museum, please call us on 8151 3260 or email maritime@history.sa.gov.au.

We provide a secure bag storage location in the homebase. This is also where you can have recess or lunch in the case of inclement weather
Food and drink are not permitted in any part of the museum. Suggested areas for gathering and eating include the homebase, which is indoors, or in the grounds.
We want students to enjoy their visit, interacting appropriately with both exhibits and each other. Please ensure that students respect the shared space by using quiet voices, walking safely, and following the instructions of their supervising adults. The museum is very big, with lots of galleries, so it is important for students to stay with their group. We offer free, curriculum-aligned classroom resources through our Learning Hub, available anytime to support learning before and after your visit. For schools undertaking extended learning inquiries or Expeditionary Learning, the Botanic Gardens Education Coordinator may also be available to connect with your class before or after your excursion, either online or in person. Availability depends on the topic, timing and our capacity.
Yes. Our learning experiences align with the Australian Curriculum, South Australian Curriculum, SACE and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Programs are designed
to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences in nature.
While many of our programs support Science and Geography outcomes, they also connect with Technologies, Health and Physical Education, The Arts and the wider Humanities. Through our living collections, we explore biodiversity, conservation and sustainability in meaningful and engaging ways.
Popular programs include:
- Kitchen Garden programs for Early Years and Primary students
- Plant Adaptations, exploring rainforest and desert environments
- Space Botany, our gamified STEM learning experience
- Wetland Nature Detectives, featuring waterbugs and biodiversity fieldwork
- Habitat Heroes and Flying-Fox Fieldwork
- First Nations learning experiences delivered by our Indigenous cultural tour partners
We generally offer a morning session at around 10.00am and a midday session at 12.00pm. Kitchen Garden programs typically commence at 10.30am and 12.00pm.
Most educator-led sessions cater for a maximum of 30 students per group. Teachers and supervising adults maintain duty of care for students throughout the excursion and should attend according to their site's excursion procedures. We recommend the Department for Education supervision ratios:
- 1:6 for Preschool to Year 2
- 1:10 for Years 3 to 7
- 1:15 for Years 8 to 12
Absolutely. If you're planning for multiple classes, a year level or a whole-school visit, please get in touch via dewbgschools@sa.gov.au. We can discuss options including multiple sessions, staggered groups, or bookings across several days. You might like to book in multiple programs in a single day for a single class, or multiple classes, depending on the year level needs and number of classes attending.
We recommend students bring:
- A water bottle
- A hat and sun-safe clothing
- Weather-appropriate clothing including enclosed, comfortable walking shoes
- Any required medications in the educator’s first aid kit
Most learning takes place outdoors, so being prepared for the weather is important. Walking trails can cover up to 1km or more in a program and may cover the breadth of our Garden. Please note we have limited capacity to store bags during programs, so we recommend students bring only what they need or share a backpack within their group.
Student safety and comfort are always our priority. If forecasts indicate severe weather, we will generally contact schools up to 48 hours before the excursion to discuss options. Depending on availability, this may include modifying the program to use undercover or indoor spaces, cancelling, or rescheduling your visit.
Severe weather includes lightning, thunderstorms, hail, high winds, temperatures above 36°C, or significant rainfall. We understand that last-minute changes can affect transport and school planning, so we aim to provide as much notice as possible when severe weather is forecasted that may affect your booking. Our programs run across the whole school year, in most weather conditions and we can adapt activities where possible. We don't mind a little drizzle and regularly continue programs in light rain. We’ll always be in touch if severe weather is likely to affect your booking.
Absolutely. We want every learner to feel welcome and successful during their visit. We encourage schools to contact us before their excursion to discuss any learning, accessibility or support needs within the group. Together, we can plan appropriate adjustments and identify the best approach for your students.
To assist with planning, we have published an Adelaide Botanic Garden Access Guide.
Our Education Team includes qualified educators who are experienced in delivering inclusive learning experiences. The more we know in advance, the better we can support your group. You may like to explore the following resources with your learners before your excursion to help break down what a visit or program might look like.
All of our curriculum-aligned learning programs are delivered at Adelaide Botanic Garden. From time to time, we may be able to support modified programs at Wittunga Botanic Garden in Blackwood, or Mount Lofty Botanic Garden in Crafers. Please contact our Education Coordinator to discuss whether your learning goals and group requirements are suitable for these locations.
For the richest learning experience, we recommend combining an educator-led program with self-guided exploration of the Garden. Your free, self-guided trail resources, will be sent to you via email after booking. Our educators are experts in engaging learners through extensive knowledge of our living collections, hands-on activities, inquiry and real-world connections. If timing or budget is an issue, you can book a free self-guided trail to explore the Garden with prompts or simply explore the Garden's diverse collections at your own pace.
Some schools also choose to combine their visit with another cultural institution in the precinct, booked separately. Located on North Terrace, Adelaide Botanic Garden is within walking distance or a short tram ride from Adelaide Zoo, the South Australian Museum, the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Australian Space Discovery Centre and other inspiring destinations.
Complete our online booking request form and a member of the Education Team will be in touch to confirm availability and discuss the most suitable programs and options for your students.
Bookings for all AGSA education programs and visits can be made using our online booking form. AGSA Education | Bookings We recommend booking your visit at least 4 weeks in advance.
Visits to AGSA’s permanent galleries are generally free of charge. Visits to temporary, ticketed exhibitions are between $30 -$70 per class depending on the exhibition. Visits to The Studio are free of charge but bookings are essential. A range of making and responding workshops are also available with more information about costs available here: For Students – AGSA
All these programs must be booked in advance. You can find out more about our programs, prices and submit booking requests on our website.
Lunch and recess can be eaten in the Sculpture Courtyard.
Yes- non-flash photography is encouraged to record and support discussion and learning back at school. Photographs, for personal use, can be taken in all areas of the Gallery unless signage advises otherwise.
We strongly recommend not bringing bags to the Gallery, If bags are required, we suggest small tote bags with essential items as opposed to school bags and back packs. In the event of high visitation, students may be required to wear backpacks on the front of their bodies or carry their tote bag during their visit.
Please do not bring valuables. We have limited space at the Gallery resulting in school bags being stored in unsupervised public spaces. This means there may be a risk of theft and we cannot guarantee the security of your items.
Please share this information with your students and parents/caregivers.
